Tempo

Use these controls to set the tempo of the song (measured in Beats Per Minute*).

Adjust either BPM value by dragging the mouse up and down while holding down the left mouse button. For fine control also hold down the CTRL key while dragging.

You can also click with the right mouse button to increase by 1 BPM (or with the right mouse button while holding down the CTRL key to decrease by 1 BPM).

If the Link on/off button is ticked then both values are locked together and the song has a fixed tempo. If the Link button is not ticked then each value can be adjusted independently and the song has a varying tempo.

The first value gives the tempo when the song's energy is at a minimum; the second value gives the tempo when the song's energy is at maximum. Use each section's Resets Energy Button to create different patterns of energy/tempo change.

If you want the tempo to vary while the song is playing, you generally want it to speed up as the energy increases, so you set the second value to be higher than the first (but you can do it the other way around if you want the tempo to slow down as energy increases).

The minimum tempo setting is 30 BPM; the maximum is 300 BPM. Most songs use tempos somewhere between 50 BPM and 200 BPM.

Use the F7 and F8 keyboard shortcuts to quickly halve or double the tempo.

* Because JUMP doesn't use time signatures the displayed BPM value is based on the assumption that each bar (measure) contains 4 beats. If there are only 3 beats per bar then the true BPM will be 3/4 of the value displayed. To convert a 3/4 time BPM into the value required increase it by a third.
